What to Do in Japan
For once-in-a-lifetime experiences it’s hard to beat Japan: from watching a baseball game in Tokyo, sipping on an ice-cold beer served by a girl with a keg strapped on her back to skiing in the hills above Sapporo in full view of the city, the excitements are all there. Of course, more genteel activities such as the unforgettable Japanese Tea Ceremony can be pursued and if you think that golf is not a cultural activity then try a round or two with Japanese businessmen – you’ll be surprised at the complexity of the Japanese version of the game. Japan is home to many onsens – hot spring spa centres – that vary throughout the land but the core pleasure of relaxing and benefitting health-wise remains the same. Finally, pachinko – Japan’s national craze – is a definite ‘must-do’.
