What to Do at Night in Kamigyo - Kyoto

Just north of Kyoto’s central downtown area, Kamigyo presents a varied nightlife with something for everyone. Traditional Japanese and contemporary dance and music is on show at the ALTI theatre, while the best upcoming rock, blues and soul bands play at Jottoku. There is some great jazz to be found as well as some intimate coffeehouses.

Le Club Jazz

This popular jazz club features blues, jazz and soul bands every Tuesday night with artists form across Japan and some international guests. From Thursday to Monday they hold live jam sessions where the musically minded come together freestyle. Cover charge includes two drinks.

Jittoku

Housed in an old sake warehouse and oozing with ambience Jittoku hosts a variety of musical acts drawing a hip young crowd.

ALTI

If you are interested in classical Japanese music and dance drop in to the Kyoto Tourist Information Centre to find out what’s playing at ALTI. Regular performances of traditional dance and musical recitals are a great way to spend an evening.

Ergo Bibamus

A curious name for this riverside café overlooking the western bank of the Kamo River. Cozy and warm, the café is a good spot to begin a night out.
