Located in the central regions of Kyoto, Nakagyo translates as the 'central capital' ward. With the gentle flow of the Kamo River bisecting the area, Nakagyo is a scenic, yet busy neighborhood dense with amazing historic sites such as shrines and temples. The area is also popular with locals for its shopping and entertainment options.
Three of Kyoto’s most beautiful festivals are staged in Nakagyo Ward; the Hollyhock Festival or Aoi Matsuri held in May, the colourful parades of the Gion Matsuri in July and on 22 October the Jidai Matsuri or Festival of the Ages, lights up the streets.
