Being an area rich in ancient history, a lot of the nightlife options in Sakyo Ward is of the traditional variety. Tiny izakayas can be found in the streets close to the Silver Pavilion (Ginkakuji). You will also discover small karaoke dens scattered about the precinct. The area around Kyoto University is where most of the newer bars and clubs are located, catering for the student community with hip, trendy venues and long menus of modern cocktails.
