Ukyo Restaurants

Where to Eat in Ukyo - Kyoto

The Arashiyama Sagano area is one of the most scenic and popular tourist destinations in Kyoto and there are a number of interesting traditional Japanese dining options.

Western Kyoto is the place to experience Kaiseki-ryori; the definitive Japanese cuisine using the fresh ingredients of the season cooked to augment the original taste of the ingredients. Each dish is simply seasoned and presented beautifully in exquisite dinnerware often accompanied by leaves, flowers or vines.

Tofu fans should not miss out on eating this local delicacy. Nearby Morika tofu producers sell tofu to many of the top restaurants in the country. In Sagano there are a few tofu specialty restaurants including a Zen Buddhist vegetarian venue where diners can enjoy their tofu under the shade of a lush bamboo forest.
