Mansei Youshoku

This massive dining complex is actually 7 unique restaurants in one, spread across ten floors. Prices rise as you go up the floors with the 10th floor being the most expensive teppanyaki style steak. The 8th and 9th floors offer traditional Japanese shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. The 7th floor restaurant serves tonkatsu, steak and rice for lunch then shabu-shabu, sukiyaki and steak for the dinner serving. The 5th floor offers very affordable meals including some Korean specialties like kalubi, rosu, and bibinba. The 3rd and 4th floors serve western-influenced dishes such as meatloaf with gravy and skewered meats. The lower floors are home to a meat and fish market with a drinking hall in the middle. There is something for all bugets and tastes at Mansei.

This is a branch of the popular okonomiyaki chain from Osaka. The okonomiyaki is mixed and fried for you by skilled waiters and they aren’t stingy with the all-important okonomiyaki sauce. Yabu Soba

Situated in a picturesque hundred-year-old house Yabu Soba has been in the soba business since 1880. Yabu Soba offers ‘seiro’ soba meaning the noodle dough is prepared with a 10:1 ratio of buckwheat to wheat flour giving it a unique Edo-style flavour. Enjoy the noodles with shrimp tempura or simply dipped into the flavourful broth. A great place to soak up some history and enjoy some traditional Japanese fare.

Traditions are well observed at Botan, a small restaurant that specializes in chicken sukiyaki. Not only are the surroundings a throw-back to the old days but the wait staff all wear traditional kimonos to compound the time-honored concept. Kyushu Jangara Ramen

This popular ramen shop has five franchises throughout the city, serving delicious Hakata ramen, that’s pork bone soup with extra-thin noodles. The soup varies according to preference with a simple ‘jangara’ broth, a rich ‘bonshan’ broth as well as a spicy version called ‘karabon’ and varieties in between. Noodle refills are free so be sure to keep some soup in your bowl. The ramen toppings are numerous with flavoured boiled eggs, stewed pork or pork tenderloin among popular favourites.

Located on the 8th floor of the Yodobashi Camera Mulch Media Akiba Building this restaurant has a clean, fresh appeal and good views of the Akihabara streets.
