Where to Go at Night in Shibuya - Tokyo

Much of Shibuya’s nightlife is centered around Dogen-zaka, a street also known as Love Hotel Hill for the numerous short-time inns that accommodate affectionate couples looking for privacy. The street is also home to a few strip clubs and sex shops however over the last few years Shibuya has advanced to attract some of Tokyo’s best music and dance clubs.

Womb

This popular dance club is designed by the people who built New York’s well known Twilo club and as such has a steady following of young hip Tokyoites. Over three floors of lounges, bars dance floors and VIP rooms, upcoming DJs strut their stuff here as do internationally renowned artists.

Each weekend, with an all-you-can-drink ‘nomihoudai’ event Club Pure fills up with foreigners and Japanese people who like to meet foreigners. The club plays strictly hip hop music and is a good place for dancing.

Doma Doma

This is not your typical izakaya (Japanese pub). Doma Doma serves up smooth jazz to complement its range of drinking foods. Open from 5pm this is a good place to start a night out. Closing at 5am it is also a good place to end the night.

La Mama

With standing room only this live music venue is modeled after an old style American live house and features great bands playing mostly rock and roll but sometimes disco and techno as well. The long narrow venue allows good views of the stage but be prepared to stand up all night as tables are hard to come by.
